Lingua e Canto is a 3-week course combining intensive study of the Italian language and vocal performance for singers who want to immerse themselves in the country and its culture. Singers will stay in private apartments within walking distance of classrooms and rehearsal spaces. Most rooms will be double-occupancy, and larger rooms will be three singers to a room.
The professional faculty of seasoned professors and performers will challenge you in all areas of singing: technique, diction, style, accuracy, and characterization. Workshops on topics relating to career building, breath management, audition strategies and what grad school or Young Artist Program might be right for you will broaden your knowledge while building your confidence.

Daily Schedule: IMMERSION!
Each weekday morning you will walk to the classroom to enjoy 3.5 hours of Italian instruction taught ONLY in Italian by native speakers who are certified language instructors from the Scuola Italia. In the afternoon, you will meet with the music faculty and receive individual coachings in diction, style, and vocal technique. In the evenings, we will stage opera scenes and rehearse ensembles.
Sat/Sun will be reserved for travel! Several excursions are planned to take you to exciting places in the region of Le Marche including Pesaro, Rossini's birthplace, where we will enjoy the beach on the Adriatic Sea! We will also travel to the medieval city of Urbino, where we will tour the castle the Duke of Urbino built for his wife in the 16th Century. You will also have free time to explore on your own.
Robin Fisher, Program Director and Professor of Voice, founded Lingua e Canto to provide a vital bridge between classroom and stage for singers who seek to perform in Italian with more confidence and authenticity.
Rehearsals and performances will take place in historic venues and theaters, and on outdoor stages in and around Sant' Angelo in Vado.
We have a total of 3 concerts planned including 1 evening of opera scenes, 1 aria concert, and 1 evening of art songs and other chamber music for Italian audiences.
